Maddie and Joe… swoon.
The first time I met Maddie, she was a bridesmaid in a wedding I was photographing. Her and her boyfriend, Joe, were dancing at the reception and just so naturally happy and photogenic– I remember editing a photo I had taken of them that night and thinking… man, that’s love.
Maddie’s best friend, Olivia, got engaged in 2015, and thanks to Maddie’s recommendation, I got to be a part of Olivia’s wedding as well, with Maddie as her maid of honor. Again, Maddie and Joe stole the show by being ADORABLE on the dance floor, and of course, I was waiting already for Joe to pop the question.
And then, I got the email I had been waiting for. Joe wanted me to pretend to set up a photoshoot and ask Maddie to participate, and of course, I was all in. (It didn’t hurt that I used to work for Southern Bride magazine, and even got them in on the fun– they sent me a fake email confirming Maddie and Olivia as models for an upcoming shoot!)
It worked out perfectly that I saw Joe and Maddie out one night, and told Maddie about the “shoot”, and she was SO excited. Olivia and I coordinated texts and location, all the time giddy and giggling that Maddie had NO clue.
The night came, and man, it was WINDY. A storm and a cold front were coming in, and we were pretty nervous that the storm would be coming in during the proposal, Maddie would see Joe (he was hidden in the corner of the rooftop awaiting my signal), etc.
So Maddie and Olivia got to the rooftop looking absolutely gorgeous, and we got right to it, having Maddie pose first. I told her we would get her back first, and since it was so windy, not to turn around until I tapped her shoulder. She turned around and I gave Joe the signal, and when she got a tap on the shoulder, it was from him, not me! Maddie was in complete shock, and honestly, I don’t think she realized Joe was proposing until he got on one knee.
And so happily ever after began.
Joe had one more surprise for Maddie that night– he had a surprise party waiting for them at the Brass Door with their friends and family waiting for them! Joe takes the crown for proposals, and of course, I can’t WAIT to see this couple become husband and wife!
